Join Others As We Journey to the Cross

By: Jason Crosby
Soon, the Lenten season will be upon us.  Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, which is February 22 this year.  Traditionally, this time of the year on the Christian calendar is one when believers engage in penitential acts in preparation for Easter celebrations.  Lent is a time when individuals assess what barriers preclude them from living resurrected lives.  The forty days of Lent mirror Jesus forty days in the wilderness when Jesus confronted temptations prior to beginning his earthly ministry.

A common practice during Lent is for people to give up something.  People will often refrain from eating meat or ingesting caffeine during Lent.  These practices can be powerful.  Such exercises serve as daily reminders of those aspects of our lives that keep us from being who God has called us to be.

In addition to giving something up during Lent, however, an equally powerful practice can be adding something to one's routine.  This year during Lent at Crescent Hill Baptist, there will be various opportunities made available to engage in groups so that you may reflect on your walk with Jesus.  One opportunity on the horizon will be offered on Wednesday evenings.  Bill Thomason will be leading a study on Jesus' temptations during the six o'clock hour on Wednesdays during Lent.  Or, Lent is an excellent time to begin participating in a Sunday School class.  By reflecting on the significance of the Lenten season in community, in addition to giving something up in isolation from others, you may see new insights into what elements in your life keep you from fully living a resurrected life.  Join us as we journey to the cross.
