Exploring Job's Hard Words and Heart Cries

Our Lenten theme at CHBC this year is Hard Words, Heart Cries.  We will be exploring Job's hard words and heart cries on three Wednesday evenings this Lent.  Bill Thomason will be leading us through this study on the Book of Job.  The sessions will begin at 6PM following a time of prayer.  A meal will be Georges de la Tour's Jobserved each Wednesday from 5:15PM until 6PM.  All are welcome.  

February 20 - Background on the Book of Job and the problem of undeserved suffering (chapters 1-3)

February 27 - The argument between Job and his fairweather friends (chapters 4-31)

March 6 - The speechs of Elihu and God: does God address Job's problem? (chapters 32-42)

Exploring Hard Words, Heart Cries This Lenten Season

Beginning with Ash Wednesday on February 13, we Christians of the western calendar enter the challenges presented by the season of Lent. Our community of pilgrimage here at Crescent Hill Baptist Church will center our journey with the words “Heart Cries; Hard Words.” Congregants will note a certain starkness in décor as we prepare the sanctuary for the transforming reflection of the season. The first Sunday in Lent will bring down the bells, bright ribbons and banner days, all to be stored away for the season as our way of letting the Alleluia fall silent for a fallow period. The first candle of the Lenten wreath will be snuffed. Each subsequent Sunday will increase the darkness, and the altar table will be marked with a symbol of the hard times and hard words on the way to Gethsemane on Maundy Thursday, March 28, Golgotha and Good Friday on March 29. In addition to exploring this theme in worship, we will be exploring Job's heart cries and hard words on Wednesday evenings during Lent. Bill Thomason will lead us through the book of Job. Heart cries and hard words are heard all throughout the Book of Job.

Interfaith Shabbat

Join us Wednesday, February 13 in the Chapel after the Fellowship Supper to usher in the Lenten season. Fellowship meal begins at 5:15 PM. Ash Wednesday service begins at 6:00 PM.
